AcFun Anime Series

The choice I can’t bear to give up after getting into anime platforms

Official Website: https://www.acfun.cn/bangumilist

On weekends when I don’t want to go out and just want to relax and watch a couple of anime episodes in peace, I’ve tried several platforms before. Some have ads so long that they take up half the episode, some make you search for ages to find the anime you want, and some have such chaotic bullet comments that you can’t follow the plot at all. It wasn’t until I accidentally used AcFun that I realised watching anime could be this comfortable.

When I first joined AcFun, I had a small misunderstanding — my previous impression of this platform was limited to old domestic original animations and classic masterpieces, so I thought either the new anime were incomplete or updated slowly. Later, when I searched for the latest popular new anime, I actually found them, and the update speed kept up with other platforms. That’s when I realised how ridiculous my stereotype was.

The core advantage of AcFun, in my opinion, is its **ad-free anime viewing experience**. This is really a must-have for watching anime. On other platforms I used before, even with a membership, sometimes ads would be inserted, or an ad window would pop up suddenly in the middle of an episode, directly breaking the immersion. On AcFun, whether it’s the web version or the client, whether it’s PC or mobile, watching anime is completely clean — no pre-roll ads, no pop-up ads, and even small ads in the middle of episodes are rare. This feeling of being able to focus entirely on the plot is really nowhere else to be found.

Besides being ad-free, the atmosphere of the bullet comments is also why I’ve stayed. It’s not that there are no trolls at all, but the overall vibe is more in line with the shared feelings of anime fans. Many bullet comments resonate with key plot points — for example, when watching a famous scene in an anime, everyone will collectively post memes, so you don’t have to feel emotional alone. That feeling of enjoying the plot together with a group of people is much more fun than watching alone. There’s also the cache function: sometimes when I go out without Wi-Fi, I can download anime to my phone in advance, and I don’t mind using mobile data to watch it. Also, you can choose HD quality, so the cache won’t be blurry and ruin your mood. The screen-casting function is also practical — on weekends, I can cast it directly to the TV in the living room, which is much better than watching on a phone screen.

Compared with the several anime platforms I used before, AcFun’s **exclusive anime resources** are a big highlight. Some anime are exclusive to AcFun, which you can’t see on other platforms, or require a paid membership to unlock. On AcFun, regular users can watch them directly. The resources cover Japanese anime, domestic original animations, and even some American comics. It’s not hard to find them either — although the categories don’t have very detailed tags, there are core sections like New Anime, Classics, and Domestic Original, so you don’t have to scroll around wasting time.

However, I’ve also encountered a few pitfalls when using it, so new users can avoid detours:

  • The entrance to exclusive resources is not obvious. At first, I had no idea there were exclusive anime, but later I found that adding the keyword “exclusive” when searching can filter them out, saving you from searching aimlessly for a long time
  • Cached anime are encrypted and can only be viewed on the local device, not transferred to other devices. For example, if you download something on your phone and want to watch it on your computer, you have to download it again. If you switch devices, it’s better to watch online or cache it in advance on the new device
  • Occasionally, there are low-quality bullet comments, such as arguments or off-topic memes. If you encounter them, long-press the comment to block it, or directly block the user, and it will be much quieter
  • Don’t click on small links in the anime page casually — some may be from other platforms, and even risky. Just watch the official content on AcFun directly

As for who is suitable for using AcFun? First, anime fans — whether you’re chasing new anime or catching up on old ones, domestic original or Japanese anime, the resources are basically covered, and exclusive anime can meet the demand for exclusive content. Second, those who value viewing experience and hate ads — AcFun’s ad-free feature is really great, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the plot. Also, those who like bullet comment interactions — the vibe of fellow fans here lets you feel the fun of watching anime, unlike some places where everyone talks past each other or no one responds to you. In addition, those who like community discussions are also suitable — AcFun has many UP creators who do anime analysis and roundups, as well as user discussion boards, where you can talk about in-depth content related to anime.

Of course, AcFun is not perfect — for example, some categories are not very detailed, and occasionally the picture quality of individual anime is not very good. But overall, for people who like watching anime, especially those who care about ad-free and bullet comment atmosphere, it’s really a very practical choice. If you’ve been worried about ads, bullet comments, or resources on anime platforms before, why not try AcFun? Maybe you’ll end up making it your go-to place for watching anime, just like me.
