Transparent assets with no background removal — I’ve used it for nearly 4 years, and it really saves loads of time

Anyone who does design or writes content has probably run into this annoying situation: you find a small icon, download it and it comes with a white background, and you spend half an hour cutting it out only to end up with ragged edges; or while making slides you want to add a decorative element, but you search the whole image library and can’t find a ready-made transparent one, so you end up spending time processing it yourself. It doesn’t have to be such a hassle. CleanPNG, which I’ve used since it launched in 2017, has always been a permanent fixture in my asset toolkit. It does just one thing — providing already cut-out transparent-background PNG images. You don’t need to touch any background removal tool; just open it and use them right away.

3 million transparent images — is that enough for everyday use?

Whether an asset site can serve as your mainstay depends on whether its resources are plentiful and its quality up to scratch. On both counts, CleanPNG really hits the practical marks.

When searching for images, don’t click around blindly — these two methods work well

Search with keywords, but don’t be too vague

When looking for images, don’t search for something too general like “beautiful flowers”; search for something specific instead, such as “rose” or “sunflower”, and you’ll find matching images within seconds rather than wasting time on piles of irrelevant ones. Search “animals” and you could get thousands of results, and still not find anything usable after scrolling for ages.

Use the filters to narrow down results

If you get too many results, use the filters. These dimensions are quite practical:

Filter by update time to find fresh images just added to the library; filter by size — pick high resolutions for large images and small sizes for small icons; filter by type — for example, look only at icons if you need icons, or decorations if you need decorations; and filter by colour — if your project has a fixed colour scheme, just pick images in the matching colour with no post-editing needed.

I once searched “coffee cup” and got over 2,000 results. Using the filters for “newest”, “small icons” and “brown”, the results shrank to just a dozen or so, and I could pick a suitable one at a glance instead of flipping through dozens of pages.

Downloading and commercial use — no unnecessary complications

No registration needed — just download

Many asset sites require registration, daily check-ins and points accumulation. Sometimes you just want to download one small image, yet you have to fill in loads of information — a real hassle. CleanPNG doesn’t require any of that: no login, no email binding. Just open the page and download as many as you like. It’s especially handy when you need something in a hurry. Last time I was rushing a proposal and needed a small icon — I downloaded and had it in use within two minutes, and it didn’t hold things up at all.

For commercial use, most images are fine

I occasionally use these images for my WeChat Official Account illustrations. Most can be used commercially for free — whether for posters, articles or adding elements to Mini Programs. No, it’s free. All images can be downloaded for free, with no download limits — you’ll never have to pay no matter how many years you use it. I’ve been using it since 2019 and have never paid a penny, nor have I ever come across a situation requiring payment.

Does not registering affect usage?

Not at all. Even as a guest, you can download all images without leaving any personal information, so there’s no need to worry about privacy.

Can’t find the image you want?

Don’t browse aimlessly — search with specific keywords, then adjust the conditions with the filters. For example, if you want “small blue clouds”, search first and then pick the colour and size; after a few rounds you’ll find it.

Can downloaded images be used in commercial projects?

Mostly yes — company posters, product introduction pages and Mini Program icons are all fine. For special projects, such as product packaging, confirm the copyright notes first to avoid any mistakes.
