This is the reliable way to find in-depth local news about Shanghai

If you really want to access authoritative local information about Shanghai, don’t scroll through random accounts — Shangguan News is an essential choice. It is a professional news platform launched by Jiefang Daily, which has always adhered to the positioning of “based in Shanghai, looking at the world”, focusing on digging into key events and cutting-edge issues in Shanghai’s urban development, and providing interpretations from a Shanghai perspective, rather than generic press releases.

A few content sections I use regularly — pick as needed

With content produced by a senior news team, Shangguan News has a comprehensive range of formats to meet different needs, so you don’t have to switch between apps. I usually choose different content based on my schedule: when I’m busy, I read the instant news updates; when I have time, I look for in-depth reports or data interpretations.

• Instant news updates, delivering the latest developments in real time;
• In-depth investigative reports, uncovering the logic and truth behind events;
• Data-driven analysis, presenting trends and patterns using data;
• Comments on hot topics, bringing together diverse perspectives;
• Live on-site reports, allowing users to experience events as if they were there.

My favourite sections: Political Affairs helps understand Shanghai’s policy trends, District Affairs shows the specific actions of each district, Urban Affairs and Culture are more related to daily life — when looking for local events or stories of old buildings, I always find something in the Culture channel.

A few user-friendly details I discovered after avoiding pitfalls

I always found other news platforms tiring to use — either the layout was messy or I couldn’t find what I wanted. Shangguan News has several details that are really convenient. The interface looks clean, the font size is appropriate, so you don’t have to squint to find content, and it doesn’t strain your eyes even after long reading.

The high-quality news content is genuine, after all, it’s backed by the Jiefang Daily team, so you don’t have to worry about seeing false information. There’s also a personalised reading function that lets you customise the sections you follow — for example, the Finance and Culture sections I often watch can be found directly when I open the app, without having to search for them every time.

The search tool is good — you can quickly locate content by entering keywords. Cross-platform sharing is also convenient: when you see an interesting report, you can directly share it to WeChat or other places, without having to copy and paste.

Finally, a practical note

Don’t overthink it — it’s a reliable choice for finding in-depth local information about Shanghai.
