Looking for a reliable Shaanxi local news platform but worried about messy information and slow updates? I’ve been using Huashang Net for nearly 5 years, and today I’ll share the practical experience I’ve figured out after stepping in all the potholes.
First, Get Clear About Your Own Needs
Official website: https://www.hsw.cn/
When I first started following local news, I always wanted to find a platform that covered everything, but later realised there was actually no need — different people have completely different core needs when using Huashang Net. If you want daily updates on Shaanxi’s political developments and local breaking news, its core news sections are enough; if you’re a student preparing for the Gaokao, or looking for second-hand housing in Xi’an or routes for weekend trips nearby, then the livelihood channels are what you really need.
Don’t mind me being repetitive — this point really matters. I didn’t get it clear at first and wandered around aimlessly for a week, wasting quite a lot of time on irrelevant content before I finally set my most-used sections as homepage shortcuts.
Getting to Know How the Common Features Work
Don’t Rely Only on the Homepage for Local News
Many people open Huashang Net and just scroll through the homepage news, but its content categories are actually quite clearly organised. For example, politics, economy and social news are sorted into different channels, so you don’t have to dig through a pile of noise. I usually stick to two sections: “Shaanxi Headlines” and “Sanqin Livelihood”. The information there is far more reliable than scrolling WeChat Moments, and you won’t be misled by false messages.
If you like chatting about local matters with others, don’t miss the Huashang Forum either. Last year I asked about a property management issue in a residential community in Xi’an, and within a couple of days other owners had replied with extra details, and someone even compiled a list of tips for defending your rights — much better than fumbling around on my own.
Use Livelihood Services Across Multiple Channels
Huashang Net’s livelihood content is remarkably comprehensive — from Gaokao application guides to the latest property transaction policies, even guides for trips around the city, you can find it all. It’s not only available on the web; there’s a mobile version too, and it updates in sync on Weibo and WeChat. Whether you’re at home on a computer or out and about with your phone, you can check it anytime.
Last year, when I helped a relative look up the primary-to-junior-high school admission policies, I found everything in the education channel — from registration dates to school catchment areas, even the required documents were clearly listed, so there was no need to ask around.
Go to the Right Channel for Professional Information
If you follow finance or education content, just head straight to the corresponding professional channel. The finance section updates the latest information on finance, stocks and wealth management — my friend who invests in funds often looks up industry updates here, which is more practical than following some general finance accounts. The education channel covers everything from primary school to postgraduate level; whether you’re a parent choosing a school for your child or a student looking for postgraduate entrance exam materials, you can find targeted information.
Of course, that doesn’t mean all content has to be found on Huashang Net — for national news you’ll still need other platforms, but for anything about Shaanxi local matters, this place is basically enough.
Avoiding Unnecessary Pitfalls
Don’t click pop-up ads at random — this really needs attention. When I first started using it, I couldn’t help clicking the pop-ups on the homepage, but later found many were irrelevant promotions that only got in the way of finding proper content. Now I’ve blocked pop-ups altogether, and the page is much cleaner.
Also, don’t treat it as a pure entertainment platform. It mainly focuses on news and livelihood services — if you’re after gossip or entertainment news, there isn’t much here, so dedicated entertainment sites are a better bet.
Huashang Net is now also transforming towards a smarter direction and occasionally runs public welfare activities — I once took part in a used book donation it organised, which was quite genuine. By the way, it’s not just a news platform; it also serves as a window for Shaanxi’s publicity to the outside world. Whenever friends from other parts of the country come to Xi’an, I ask them to read the content here first — it’s a quick way to get to know the distinctive character of the Sanqin land.
